Field Trip for Offshore Mid-Norway Reservoirs

Course Details

This is a course designed for managers, engineers, geologists and geophysicists that work primarily on the Bat and Fangst Groups of Offshore Mid-Norway. The field trip places special emphasis on the Ile, Tilje, Garn, Tofte and Are Formations of the Halten Terrace. Whether you are involved in preparation of APA or Numbered License Round Applications or if your primary tasks include creation of geomodels this field-trip will prepare you well.

If you are interested in a particular license block or area of interest, send us some data in advance so we can choose the right outcrop for your wells.

This course is meant for all who are working on Barents Sea reservoirs in an exploration or development capacity.

Course Outline

Day 1

Arrival at Grand Junction Regional Airport

We will pick you up and take you to your hotel where you can rest and recuperate


Day 2

We will gather at the hotel meeting room at 9:00 am for orientation, safety briefing, and classroom modules on sedimentary structures and ichnology.

Field excursion to look at the fluvial-tidal transition zone – Ile and Are analogs


After lunch we will head to the Colorado National Monument for an introduction to local stratigraphy and structures. For dinner we will head out to Grand Junction.

Day 3

We will meet at 9:00 am for lectures on sequence stratigraphy of shallow marine systems

Field excursion to a canyon very close to the hotel to look at shorefaces – Garn analogs


Day 4

We will meet at 9:00 am for lectures on tide-influenced and tide dominated deltas

We will drive across the Utah border to look at tide influenced deltas – Tilje analogs


Day 5

We will meet at 9:00 am for lectures on estuaries and incised valley systems

We will be checking-out of the hotel and driving northwest to spend the next few days looking at Cretaceous estuaries


Day 6

We will meet at 9:00 am for lectures on channelized tidal sand-bodies

We will spend the day looking at tidal inlets and sand waves – Tofte analogs


Day 7

We will be checking-out early from the hotel and drive towards Grand Junction

We will drop you off at the airport for your departure flight.
